Red Sox catcher set to make baseball history next week

The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays met back on June 26 for a game at Fenway Park, but the 0-0 tie game was suspended in the top of the second inning due to weather.

While the game is set to resume on Monday, there's going to be an interesting quirk that's never happened in the history of the game.

When the contest was suspended, right-handed pitcher Kutter Cwaford was facing catcher Danny Jansen, who was batting for the Blue Jays at the time. However, since that game, Toronto traded Jansen to the Red Sox , so they'll have to pinch-hit for him.

Boston manager Alex Cora told reporters on Friday that Jansen would be the catcher for that game, which would be the first time in MLB history that a player would play in the same game for both teams.

This is just another one of those moments that can only happen in baseball and makes this game so interesting. 100 years from now Jansen's name will be remembered as the answer to one of the most amazing trivia questions in sports.

Jansen has appeared in 14 games with Boston so far this season, hitting .231 with a .718 OPS, two home runs and five RBIs. With Connor Wong slumping hard at the plate, he (and rookie Mickey Gasper ) may get more opportunities going forward.
