New York Giants right tackle Evan Neal suffered an ankle injury during Saturday night's final preseason game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

The misfortunes continue for the embattled former first-round pick after dealing with a lengthy rehab process following offseason ankle surgery.

Neal said after the game that he's optimistic this isn't a long-term issue. He confirmed it's the same ankle he had surgery on and that he got rolled up on. He will undergo further testing Sunday.

The Giants haven't been able to rely on Neal since taking him with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Between poor play and injuries, the Alabama product has had a frustrating time with the Giants. He has missed 14 of 34 career games thus far since being drafted.

Neal missed the entirety of spring practices and the majority of training camp as he worked his way back from offseason ankle surgery.

He finally returned to practice in a limited fashion and made his preseason debut at right tackle Saturday night against the Jets. However, he played just 19 snaps against the Jets before suffering the injury.

Neal is projected to be the backup right tackle to veteran Jermaine Eluemunor, who was signed this offseason in free agency.

It's still unclear whether the injury is serious, but Neal has been struggling to stay on the field ever since he was drafted.
