Giants could target Vikings first-round pick at roster cuts, per analyst

The New York Giants are expected to be active on the waiver wire following Tuesday's deadline to cut the roster down to 53 players.

With so many injuries and so much uncertainty at several positions, it's likely the Giants will use the No. 6 spot in the waiver order to their advantage.

One area likely to be addressed via the waiver wire is safety. Though the trio of Tyler Nubin, Jason Pinnock and Dane Belton are safe, the Giants could look to add some depth to the room.

According to Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, the Giants are a potential landing spot for former Minnesota Vikings first-round pick Lewis Cine.

"Both the New York Jets and New York Giants have questionable safety depth. Cine hasn't proven enough to be considered a starter for anyone, but he's a great athlete whose college film looked good enough for him to be a first-round pick. The Giants safety room took a massive hit when Xavier McKinney wasn't retained and the Jets lost Jordan Whitehead," Ballentine wrote.

The Georgia product hasn't lived up to the draft capital as the No. 32 pick from the 2022 NFL Draft. After suffering a broken leg during his rookie season, Cine hasn't gotten back into form.

Cine has appeared in just 10 games since being drafted so it would be a pretty big gamble for the Giants, who are dealing with plenty of injuries in their own right.

With question marks regarding the roster status of Gervarrius Owens due to a knee injury, the Giants certainly find themselves in the market for safety depth when the waiver period commences.
