Reunion in the making? Dolphins release former Jets' starting quarterback

Is a reunion in the cards for the New York Jets ?

If the Jets aren't comfortable enough with naming either UFL star Adrian Martinez or undrafted rookie Andrew Peasley as their third quarterback, then they could always choose a familiar face who unexpectedly became available on the free-agent market.

According to a report by ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Miami Dolphins have released former Jets' backup Mike White on Sunday. White totaled seven starts for Gang Green over the course of the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

The Dolphins signed White as a free agent in 2023. He appeared in six games last year, going 5-of-passing for 74 yards and one touchdown.

Miami apparently has more confidence in Skylar Thompson as the backup, allowing them to part ways with the 29-year-old White, who played in all three preseason games this summer. White completed only 46.5 percent of passes for 179 yards over three exhibition appearances. He was sacked four times.

Matinez and Peasley combined to go 45-of-80 passing for 451 yards and one touchdown along with 75 yards on 13 carries.

White experienced his 15 minutes of fame over a two-week period down the stretch in the 2022 season. He produced back-to-back 300-yard passing performances against NFC North opponents. Over a two-game span, White went 53-of-85 passing for 684 yards and four total touchdowns.

Making his third straight start against the Buffalo Bills in Week 14, White was knocked out on a hit by linebacker Matt Milano. He returned three weeks later to retake the reins against the Seattle Seahawks but was not effective in a loss.
