Frank Gore, Jr. poised to follow in his famous father's footsteps

Frank Gore, Jr. walked off of the football field on Saturday, possibly for the last time as a member of the Buffalo Bills. In the event that he gets cut on Tuesday, when all teams have to be at 53 players on their active roster, Gore knows he gave it all he had.

Despite the Bills losing 31-26 to the Carolina Panthers, Gore rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. If Saturday was his swan song, he went out his way.

"I can't control it, so there's nothing that I can really do about it. But, I put my best foot forward every day during camp during preseason," Gore said to the media Saturday night after the game . "So, whatever they decide, they decide. They're going to do what's best for the team, and I'll be fine no matter what."

The last preseason game was a rest for the starters. Gore didn't mind as he wanted the repetitions and needed the carries. If he does not make it in Buffalo, one of the other 31 NFL teams are going to watch his tape and see what he did.

"I actually felt that I was doing good throughout the preseason. It was just everyone has to rotate, so like I really couldn't get into a groove, because I am used to playing in college all four quarters," Gore said. "So I was excited to come out here and be able to play like a full game again. So that's what I was looking forward to. It's what I was ready for."

Sean McDermott, the coach of the Bills, said some good things about Gore after the game.

"I thought he did some good things as well," McDermott said. "It's unfortunate that he went down towards the end of the game there, but ran hard and gave us some juice in there."

Chances are Gore is not going to make the Bills final 53-man roster. He is too far down the depth chart. However, he could be a candidate for the practice squad, or claimed off of waivers by some other team in need of a young running back.

Gore's father, Frank Gore, Sr. is an advisor to the San Francisco 49ers. He retired after the 2021 season as the third-leading career rusher in NFL history. Only Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders amassed more yards.
