Scott McTominay’s time at Manchester United is coming to an end as the club finalizes a €30 million ($33.5m) transfer deal with Napoli.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who came through United’s academy and made over 250 appearances, is expected to travel to Italy today to complete his move.

The transfer includes a 10% sell-on clause, ensuring United benefits from any future sale.

While McTominay has been a reliable squad player, United’s decision to let him go has raised some eyebrows, particularly from club legend Rio Ferdinand.

    Ferdinand questions McTominay sale

Ferdinand expressed concern over the sale, suggesting United might be taking a risk by letting go of a player who understands the club’s DNA.

He emphasized the importance of having dependable squad members, even if they aren't stars, referencing players like John O’Shea and Darren Fletcher from his era.

Despite McTominay’s contributions, United couldn’t guarantee him the playing time he desired, leading to the decision to move him on.

The club is now looking to bring in Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte as a replacement, with Ugarte set to undergo his medical soon.
