The Boston Red Sox are in desperate need of help, as they've lost five games in a row and are seeing their playoff dreams slip out of their hands rapidly.

Now, two weeks after signing him to a minor-league deal, the Red Sox are activating left-handed pitcher Rich Hill, according to Robert Murray.

Hill, 44, is no stranger to Boston, as this will be the fourth time he's signed with the club; the last time being back in 2022.

In his career, he's posted a 4.01 ERA and a 1.259 WHIP, and in his five separate seasons with the Red Sox, he has a 3.16 ERA and a 1.079 WHIP.

Before being activated, Hill has appeared in one minor league game for Boston's Triple-A affiliate, the Worcester Red Sox, tossing two scoreless, hitless innings while allowing one walk and striking out two.

The Red Sox might try to pair the veteran with Cooper Criswell, who has been up and down between Boston and Worcester throughout the year and is expected to pitch for the team on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
