Man Utd urged to replace Erik ten Hag with Zidane: Dwight Yorke calls for change

Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke has called for the club to part ways with current manager Erik ten Hag and appoint Zinedine Zidane as his replacement.

Yorke believes that Zidane’s elite status could help turn around United’s shaky start to the 2024-25 season.

Manchester United have had a rocky beginning to their campaign, scraping a 1-0 win against Fulham and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Despite several summer signings following their disappointing 2023-24 season, the team has struggled to deliver consistent performances. This has led Yorke to question Ten Hag's credentials as a top-level manager.

Yorke questions Ten Hag’s pedigree

Speaking to Lord Ping, Yorke said, "Erik ten Hag is a good manager, but there is a difference between being a good manager and being an elite manager. United need a manager with pedigree. Until United get that manager in, they will struggle. Zinedine Zidane is an elite manager who can attract the biggest players in the world and get everyone back onside."

Yorke emphasized that Zidane’s presence would restore Manchester United's allure for top talent, something he feels Ten Hag lacks. "The biggest names in world football will bend over backwards to come and play for Zidane if he's at Manchester United," he added.

Yorke also hinted that the club’s new part-owners, INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, might not hesitate to make a managerial change if results don't improve. "You don’t get to be one of the wealthiest men in the UK by being nice. You have to be ruthless in business, and football is the same. I expect Sir Jim Ratcliffe won’t hesitate to make a change."

As pressure mounts, Ten Hag and his squad will look to bounce back in their upcoming Premier League clash against arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
