Bills releasing fringe WRs should lead to trading for proven veteran

The Buffalo Bills are chopping the fat off their roster to get to 53 players ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. One position battle that got a lot of attention in camp was that of the receiver position where several fringe players battled for a spot on the depth chart. Two player who won't be making it, though, are Tyrell Shavers and Justin Shorter , who the Bills have already released.

With the Bills releasing two pass-catchers, they should go out and try to acquire one of two veterans that are reportedly on the market.

The Denver Broncos are reportedly set to move on from Tim Patrick , who hasn't played in a regular season game since 2021 due to consecutive season-ending injuries. The Broncos are reportedly looking for trade partners, and Buffalo should be able to acquire the veteran for next to nothing.

Another receiver that is set to be on the move is John Metchie of the Houston Texans. The Alabama product is currently buried on the depth chart under Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell. The Texans also have another handful of solid receivers with Xavier Hutchinson and Robert Woods also on the roster. Metchie showed a ton of skill in the preseason, and would be worth sending a Day Three pick to Houston to bring him to Buffalo.

The Bills seem confident in the collection of receivers they have, but if they can get a potential upgrade for pennies on the dollar, why not try it?
