Jets' former starting quarterback landing on Bills' Practice Squad

There's something about AFC East teams and quarterback Mike White.

After four years with the New York Jets ' organization, White signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2023. With Skylar Thompson beating him out for the backup job behind starter Tua Tagovailoa last week, the Dolphins decided to release the well-traveled White who was not unemployed for long.

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms with White on a Practice Squad contract according to ESPN's Adam Schefter . The 29-year-old field general reportedly arrived Orchard Park earlier on Tuesday for a visit. The Bills kept only two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, including veteran Mitch Trubisky, who is week to week with a knee injury.

Underwhelming during game action this summer, White completed only 46.5 percent of passes for 179 yards over three exhibition appearances. He was sacked four times. In six regular season mop-up appearances with the Dolphins, White went going 5-of-6 passing for 74 yards and one touchdown last year.

White totaled seven starts for the Jets, going 2-5 in those games. He threw for 2,145 yards and eight touchdowns for Gang Green while being intercepted 12 times.

The 2018 fifth-round draft pick produced back-to-back 300-yard passing performances against NFC North opponents in 2022. Over a two-game span, White went 53-of-85 passing for 684 yards and four total touchdowns for the Jets.

Earlier in the day, the Jets and the Bills pulled off a minor trade with each other . New York sent rookie return specialist Brandon Codrington to Buffalo in an exchange that also includes 2026 late-round draft choices.
