The NFL’s roster cut deadline came and went on Tuesday afternoon, with hundreds of players learning their fates.

While most of the names listed on the transaction sheet come as no surprise, there are always a few unexpected decisions.

Former Chicago Bears safety Adrian Amos can be included in that number, according to USA Today’s Jon Hoefling . Amos, 31, was taken by the Bears in the fifth round of the 2015 draft and spent four seasons in Chicago before joining the Green Bay Packers as a free agent in 2019.

After four more seasons with the Packers, he signed with the New York Jets before the 2023 season. Amos was released by the Jets and would finish the season with the Houston Texans. He finished the year with 28 tackles, one fumble recovery, and one pass defended.

Seeking a veteran presence on the defense, the Jaguars signed Amos to a one-year contract during the preseason. Now, he’ll be looking for his fourth team in 12 months.

Hoefling believes that Amos can still be a contributor in a limited capacity. “Despite his age, Amos has been a very solid safety, earning a 71.8 grade from PFF a season ago,” he wrote. “Although he was much worse in 2022, he'd still shown some gas in the tank, even if he needed to remain in a backup role.”

Over nine NFL seasons, Amos has started 125 games at both safety positions. He has registered 664 tackles, with 10 interceptions and three forced fumbles.
