Utah football will begin its new era in the Big 12 Conference, kicking off the 2024 season against Southern Utah.

The Utes are returning most of their starters, including quarterback Cam Rising and tight end Brant Kuithe. Head coach Kyle Whittingham is in his 20th season at the helm, the longest tenured coach in the Big 12. The team has posted a winning record in 10 straight seasons and is on a mission to get to the College Football Playoffs.

Ute great and former NFL quarterback Alex Smith will also be honored with his Ring of Honor induction at halftime.

Southern Utah almost beat Arizona State to start the 2023 season. However, it has not experienced the same success against in-state rival Utah. In the last meeting between the teams in 2022, Utah dominated to the tune of a 73-7 wipeout. Yet, the Thunderbirds are retuning many of their strong defensive lineman from last season.
