The Detroit Lions began putting their practice squad together on Wednesday, with the team signing a total of 15 players. Of course, there is still more work to be done in Detroit, as the team can have up to 16 players in the group.

General manager Brad Holmes spoke about the practice squad Thursday morning and admitted the team is l ooking to add a kicker . He also stated that the Lions are going to bring wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones back.

As we wait for those moves, here's a look at who is on the Lions' initial practice squad : LB Mitchell Agude, C Kingsley Eguakun, QB Jake Fromm, RB Jermar Jefferson, T Jamarco Jones, WR Tom Kennedy, TE James Mitchell, S C.J. Moore, DL Pat O'Connor, WR Tim Patrick, DL Kyle Peko, WR Allen Robinson, DL Chris Smith, DL Isaac Ukwu, TE Shane Zylstra

Of those 15, here's who we think were the six-best signings.

Detroit Lions best practice squad signings

    1. WR Tim Patrick

The Lions desperately needed to make veteran additions at wide receiver to the practice squad, and Patrick was one of two significant players signed.

Patrick was once an ascending wide receiver before being ravaged by injuries the past two seasons. It was definitely worth taking a flyer on him, especially under the circumstances. He's a great fit as a boundary receiver with experience.

    2. EDGE Isaac Ukwu

Ukwu was a beast during the preseason, tallying five pressures, three sacks and five stops over three games. He was so good that we thought he might end up on the 53-man roster, but that turned out not the be the case.

Thankfully, Detroit got him back on the practice squad, as the team needs to give itself as many EDGE options as possible.

    3. WR Allen Robinson

The second significant practice squad signing at wide receiver, Robinson has seen a steep decline over the past three seasons and just turned 31, so he's far from the stellar receiver he once was.

But, again, the Lions can't afford to be picky and Robinson checks the box of an experienced X receiver who could serve as a decent depth option.

    4. LB Mitchell Agude

Agude showed no shortage of hustle and effort over his three preseason games. He posted four pressures and eight stops. He gives Detroit another player who can get after the quarterback.

    5. G/T Jamarco Jones

The Lions have a lot of young backups along the offensive line, so having a veteran like Jones is a sound insurance policy. Not to mention, he can play both  tackle and guard.

    6. Shane Zylstra

Detroit only has three tight ends on the active roster, and one of them, Parker Hesse, is only going to contribute as a blocker. Zylstra is someone who can be a competent pass-catcher and blocker.
