Seahawks injury updates: John Schneider on status of Abe Lucas, Uchenna Nwosu, others

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider spoke with the team beat reporters following Wednesday's practice at the VMAC in Renton.

Here are a few injury updates that Schneider provided the media, per Brady Henderson at ESPN .

RT Abe Lucas

Seattle's biggest ongoing injury issue is at right tackle, where Abe Lucas underwent surgery on his knee this offseason and hasn't been able to practice since. Schneider told reporters that Lucas will play "at some point this year," which isn't super inspiring, but it's better than nothing. For now, George Fant will be starting at right tackle in his place.

OLB Uchenna Nwosu

The second-worst injury for the team happened in Saturday night's preseason win over the Cleveland Browns, when Uchenna Nwosu took a cut block from Wyatt Teller and suffered a sprained MCL. For what it's worth, ESPN reports he will be out 2-6 weeks . Schneider said he doesn't think Nwosu will have to start the year on injured reserve but is also unclear if he can start Week 1. Dre'Mont Jones and Boye Mafe are next up in the edge rotation.

C Connor Williams

Two other potential issues for Week 1 involve two free agent pickups. Projected starting center Connor Williams is still not 100% from the ACL tear he suffered in December, and he has only had a handful of practices with the team. Schneider said it's unclear if Williams will be ready for the season opener. If not, Olu Oluwatimi will take his place with the starting lineup.

S Rayshawn Jenkins

Schneider also said he's not sure if safety Rayshawn Jenkins will be ready for Week 1. Jenkins suffered a leg injury in practice a couple weeks ago. If he can't go, K'Von Wallace is the next man up and would start at safety opposite Julian Love.
