Orioles could target Braves ace to bolster rotation for 2025

The Baltimore Orioles remain one of the top teams in Major League Baseball this season and are very close to the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East.

They have remained a solid team thanks in large part to the trade for Corbin Burnes just weeks prior to spring training. This trade gave Baltimore a true ace for their starting rotation.

This offseason, they could be in the market for starting pitching help, and Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report listed them as a potential fit for Atlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried.

Fried would certainly make sense for the Orioles. Burnes is a free agent at the end of the season and the Orioles may lose him, which would put them in the market for another ace. Fried could fill that role for them.

The 30-year-old has made 23 starts this season and is 8-7 with a 3.50 ERA over 133 2/3 innings of work. He also has punched out 126 batters and posted a 1.20 WHIP.

The Orioles have proven that they are here to stay and hope to contend for years to come. Losing Burnes would be a devastating blow, but they could make up for it by potentially targeting Fried.

The left-hander has great postseason experience and has been a part of several great Braves teams. He would be a key veteran voice in a young Orioles clubhouse as the team continues to take steps towards improving for the future.

Over the course of his career, Fried is 50-22 with a 2.85 ERA. He's a two-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner, and he was even the runner up in the National League Cy Young race back in 2022.

The market for Fried will certainly be competitive, so if the Orioles lose Burnes and try to target him instead, they'll face some resistance.

We'll see how the offseason develops and if Fried ends up in Baltimore.
