NFL analyst names Commanders’ Dyami Brown an early breakout candidate

Coming out of North Carolina, wide receiver Dyami Brown was viewed as an outside receiver who possessed “home run” speed and could develop into a solid secondary option for a team. That’s likely what the Washington Commanders had in mind when they selected Brown in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft . A player who could come in and provide the perfect complement to their top receiver, Terry McLaurin.

McLaurin is the underneath, all-around receiver who’s going to make plays anywhere on the field. Brown would be the guy who defenses were scared of blowing by them, opening up the middle of the field for McLaurin due to the respect for Brown’s speed. Unfortunately, that’s not the way things have played out for Brown or the Commanders since he arrived to the team.

In three seasons , Brown has only managed to haul in 29 receptions for 476 yards and has just one touchdown in his career. However, with the Commanders recently trading Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles , Brown has an opportunity to move up on the depth chart and could have a breakout season in 2024, writes Bleacher Report NFL analyst Matt Holder .

Holder likes the opportunity Brown now has with the departure of Dotson, though that opportunity may be limited with the team’s recent signing of former Houston Texans wide receiver Noah Brown. Holder also likes the team’s addition of former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator, writing that it “will allow (Dyami) Brown to play in a system that is similar to the one he became an All-American in at North Carolina”.

Dyami Brown is also heading into a contract year with the Commanders, which should add to the motivation to have a good year and increase his value for his next contract, whether that be with the Commanders or elsewhere. How much the Noah Brown signing impacts Dyami’s opportunity in the offense remains to be seen, but at least in the beginning stages he should have the upper hand on the former Texan, having three years with the team.
