Nevertheless, Aiyuk will be draped in red and gold for the foreseeable future. That could pay big dividends if San Francisco can break through in its hunt for a sixth Lombardi Trophy.

Aiyuk emerged as Brock Purdy's go-to target in 2024, garnering more receptions than any other San Francisco player. Given the miles of tread on McCaffrey and Kittle, as well as Samuel's injury concerns in recent seasons, expect that trend to continue for years to come.

The 49ers strongly considered dealing Aiyuk at various points during this offseason, attempting to coax a team into offering a king's ransom worth of draft picks for his services. In the end, a deal never materialized. Whether that was circumstantial or deliberate is anyone's guess. However, such a move would've represented surrendering some of San Francisco's pass-catching trident's prime in exchange for future stability.
