Liverpool fans are buzzing with excitement over the prospect of new signing Federico Chiesa making his debut in Sunday’s massive Premier League clash against Manchester United.

However, manager Arne Slot has tempered expectations, suggesting that the Italian forward may not be ready to feature at Old Trafford.

Chiesa, who joined Liverpool on Thursday from Juventus, is unlikely to be in the squad for the big North West EPL derby. The 26-year-old’s arrival has added to Liverpool’s attacking options, but Slot believes the forward needs more time to settle in before making his debut.

“Chiesa is going to train with us today. There’s a bigger chance that he’s not in the squad,” Slot said during a press conference. “If injuries might come up in the next two days, we might need him, but I don’t expect him to be in, but I cannot guarantee it.”

Chiesa's injury problems and Slot's comments

Chiesa, who suffered a serious knee injury in January 2022, made 37 appearances for Juventus last season, scoring 10 goals. He also impressed for Italy in the European Championships. Despite his form, Slot emphasized the importance of easing Chiesa into the team.

“We should take care of him in the beginning because he didn’t train with the team in the last two weeks, but before he did,” Slot added. “He hasn’t played many game minutes yet, but we have a very good performance staff, so we will build him up in the right way and hopefully we can see his quality in the near future.”

Liverpool’s matchup against Manchester United is crucial, with the Reds aiming to continue their winning start to the season. While Chiesa’s debut might have to wait, his signing has already sparked excitement among the Liverpool faithful, who are eager to see what the versatile forward can bring to the team.

For now, Liverpool fans will have to wait and see if Chiesa makes a surprise appearance on Sunday, but it seems more likely that his first outing in a Liverpool shirt will come later this season.
