The Seattle Seahawks got sent home early yesterday at the end of practice instead of a team meeting, giving them a breather to rest before the start of the regular season next weekend. Several players gave head coach Mike Macdonald some cheers for that as he was speaking with the media afterwards. Macdonald didn't make any huge revelations in his last presser before the first week of the regular season, but he did mention one significant change in regards to how the team does team captains.

Under former head coach Pete Carroll , the Seahawks always had team captains for the season, usually one each for offense, defense and special teams. Apparently Macdonald will be doing away with that system and instead the players will have new captains each week for individual games rather than captains set in place for the entire season.

Here's what Macdonald told reporters when he was asked about team captains:

    Fascinating stuff.

While there's some logic to not doing away with everything Carroll had going (Seattle was at least a fringe-playoff team every year he was coaching), it's been very interesting to see all the little and large ways that Macdonald differs from his predecessor. The more we get to know Macdonald it's becoming increasingly clear that team owner Jody Allen wanted to go in a very different direction than they had been with Carroll in charge.
