Golden State Warriors put Steph Curry trade rumors to rest

It has been an eventful offseason for Stephen Curry. He saved Team USA in the Olympics, saw his longtime teammate Klay Thompson leave in free agency , and shockingly watched his name appear in trade rumors .

Now that he has signed a $62.6 million one-year contract extension , it is safe to assume that any speculation Curry might have wanted out of Golden State was just that, speculation.

At first glance, a one-year extension sounds noncommittal, but the deal means Curry is now under contract with the Warriors until at least 2027. It represents the longest time a player of his age and salary could have signed for .

If Curry was dead set on positioning himself for a team up with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers, he would not have signed the deal.

“One of the greatest players this game has ever seen with many more accomplishments to come,” said the Warriors on their team X account.

Curry has maintained during interviews this offseason that he “ want(s) to be a Warrior for life” and “that has always been (his) goal .” Unless Golden State all of a sudden falls off a cliff, Curry should continue to want to remain with the team. Playing for the same franchise for 15 years is a career milestone that should not be taken lightly.

He has accomplished far too much in the NBA to abruptly leave, and the Warriors organization has given him all the tools needed to be successful.

If this season does not go well for the two-time MVP, maybe he has a change of heart. For now, Curry is a Warrior, and it would take a lot for either party to want to move on.
