Jaguars land their own version of Taysom Hill with latest free agent signing

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of new pieces on their offense heading into 2024. They signed free agent receiver Gabe Davis and drafted big-play receiver Brian Thomas Jr out of LSU in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. They also signed center Mitch Morse to put in the middle of their offensive line and give themselves a reliable centerpiece up front.

But the Jaguars aren't done making moves, as they brought in a former college star from the state of Florida to be a do-everything weapon for them offensively. John Rhys Plumlee was a tremendous dual-threat quarterback at UCF. In 2023, he threw for 2,271 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 505 yards and five scores on the ground. Plumlee signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in April, where he played quarterback, receiver, kick returner, and punt returner throughout training camp and preseason for Pittsburgh, but didn't make the 53-man roster. The Jaguars scooped him up and added him to their practice squad.

Plumlee is a legitimate talent that, if used properly, could become the Jaguars' version of Taysom Hill. They can use him as a receiver, an h-back, a running back, return man, special teams - whatever they want to try and do with the do-it-all weapon, they can toy with and see where he is most successful. Don't sleep on the potential of this signing.
