Chiefs won't have key offensive weapon in key Week 1 matchup vs Ravens

The Kansas City Chiefs will open up the 2024 NFL season without the services of a key offensive weapon. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown will not play in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Andy Reid announced Friday.

This news was shared by Adam Teicher of ESPN during Reid's Friday press conference.

Reid also shared that newly acquired receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and running back Samaje Perine may be able to play on Thursday in Week 1, which could help soften the blow.

Brown was signed by the Chiefs during free agency. He inked a one-year deal that is worth up to $11 million with incentives.

He, along with rookie first-round pick, Xavier Worthy, were brought into Kansas City to help boost a stagnant passing attack that struggled in 2023. Earlier this summer in camp, they both showcased the ability to do just that .

Unfortunately for Brown, he suffered a scary injury on the first play of preseason action. Specifically, Brown ended up with sternoclavicular joint dislocation. He was hospitalized due to the dangerous nature of that injury, but thankfully was released the next day.

The injury was deemed to need roughly four to six weeks in order to heal properly. Brown could come back any week now.
