The LSU Tigers and the USC Trojans will face off in a battle of ranked teams that has been one of the most talked about matchups of the 2024 season.

In his game week press conference, LSU coach Brian Kelly said  "excited about the matchup (with USC) and is a great showcase for college football, LSU in particular, and for all who follow college football, it should be a great matchup."

These two blue-bloods last met forty years ago in the Los Angeles Coliseum, a game LSU dominated in a 23-3 victory. The Tigers hope that history will repeat itself, especially since LSU has not won a season opener since 2019.

The game will feature two first-year starters at quarterback, Miller Moss for USC and Garrett Nussmeier for LSU. Nussmeier threw 3 TD passes in a win over Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Playing in the best possible situation as a first-time starter, Nussmeier will operate behind an experienced offensive line that returns four starters, led by preseason All-American offensive tackle Will Campbell.

LSU has a deep wide receiver room, led by Kyren Lacy and Liberty transfer CJ Daniels, who gained over 1000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns for the Flames a season ago.

Moss threw a record 6 touchdown passes in his first start in the bowl win over Louisville.

USC’s main weapon is Zachariah Branch, who can score from anywhere on the field. Branch scored two receiving TDs, scored on a punt return, as well returning a kickoff for a touchdown. In addition, Branch scored a rushing TD.
