Former New Orleans Saints superstar, current free agent, suspended by NFL

The drought on news surrounding former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas has come to an end.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport , Thomas will serve a one-game suspension starting in Week 1 due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.

The suspension stems from his arrest last November on misdemeanor charges of simple battery and criminal mischief after an alleged confrontation with a construction worker in his neighborhood in Kenner, Louisiana.

Last season, Thomas recorded 39 catches for 448 yards and a touchdown over 10 appearances before finishing on injured reserve due to a knee injury. But he played in just three games in 2022, zero in 2021 due to an ankle injury setback and seven in 2020. His last full 16-game season came in 2019, where his 1,725 receiving yards and nine scores led to NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors and his second first-team All-Pro honors.

Last March, the Saints released Thomas with a post-June 1 designation, saving $1.2 million in salary cap space, which was a formality after the two parties had previously restructured his contract to keep him in town for 2023.

Perhaps some clarity on Thomas’ standing now leads to some interest in free agency. Otherwise, there has been little indication that he’s been active on the market given the immense depth at the position around the league right now.
