Pittsburgh Steelers named potential landing spot for star quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers ' situation under center has been the talk of the offseason as the team hopes to improve the position in 2024. In order to try and do that, Pittsburgh has brought in Russell Wilson to start, and Justin Fields to back him up.

But both of those players are looking to rebound after failed stints with their previous teams, so neither one is a guarantee. Adding to that, neither one is under contract past 2024, which leaves Pittsburgh's quarterback situation even murkier.

If things don't pan out with their two options, the Steelers will be in the market for a new quarterback in 2025, and one potential option is Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott, who looks primed to at least test the free-agent market next offseason.

Knowing that, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio believes the Steelers are one of seven teams that could make a play for the star quarterback in free agency next year.

Between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, most assume that one will be winning a Water-Pik and the other will be getting fired after 2024.

The Steelers could choose to fire both, depending on what happens this year. They cleared out the quarterback depth chart after a playoff berth in 2023. They could do it again.

Would they pay Dak market value? Here’s the thing about free agency. Dak could choose to go to a team and a coach for less than market value.

After having Jerry Jones try to persuade him for years to take less than he could get elsewhere, Dak could stick it to the Cowboys by choosing to take less from one of their biggest AFC rivals.

How interested the Steelers are in Prescott, who will be very expensive barring a disastrous 2024 campaign, will depend upon how the team views its future.

If the Steelers have a bad season and want to blow it up, Prescott isn't likely to be an option. However, if Pittsburgh wants to make another run at it in 2025 and feels its a quarterback away, then Prescott makes a ton of sense.
