Dodgers star surprisingly may not land multi-year deal making reunion possible

The Los Angeles Dodgers certainly were busy this past offseason.

Los Angeles was the most active team in baseball last offseason. The Dodgers made a handful of massive splashes, including Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Los Angeles didn't stop there, though.

The Dodgers also brought in Tyler Glasnow and Teoscar Hernández among other moves. Hernández certainly came as a surprise. He launched 26 home runs and drove in 93 runs last season but ended up settling for a short-term deal with the Dodgers.

He has continued to shine and currently has 28 home runs and 87 RBIs in 132 games played. Hernández also earned his second All-Star nod this season.

Although he has been great for the Dodgers, he may have to settle for a short-term deal once again this winter, according to CBS Sports' R.J. Anderson.

"Teoscar Hernández, OF, Dodgers," Anderson said. "Hernández has been a key part of the Dodgers lineup, but we suspect that teams will have reservations about handing him a long-term deal. The same brickbats from last winter still apply -- he's whiff-happy; he's a negative defender; and so on -- and now he's nearing his 32nd birthday. We'll add that, for as productive as Hernández has been, his OPS+ could finish as his second lowest in the past five years."

If Hernández does have to settle for a short-term deal once again, that likely could put him into contention to re-sign with the Dodgers. He has been everything the Dodgers could've hoped for, but they likely won't be able to give him a long-term deal. If they could sign him to another one-year deal, maybe the sides could continue their partnership in 2025.
