Cardinals manager listed as most likely to be fired after 2024 season

The St. Louis Cardinals have had yet another disappointing season. They enter the month of September at the .500 mark and six games back in the National League Wild Card race.

If they miss the postseason again, or worse, finish under .500 for the second straight year, they may be forced to make some major changes.

One such change could be at the managerial position. Manager Oli Marmol has been the subject of much criticism in recent years. Brandon Scott of Bleacher Report listed Marmol as the most likely manager to be fired at the end of the season.

"The Cardinals are in danger of finishing below .500 for the second straight season," Scott wrote. "Marmol, who became the youngest MLB manager at age 35 when he was appointed in October 2021, also has Cardinals legend Yadier Molina lingering in the background."

The Cardinals certainly have a lot of pressure on them to finish the season strong. But if they don't, we could see them make a change.

Marmol replaced Mike Shildt in 2021 and led the Cardinals to a 93-win season in 2022. However, they lost 91 games in 2023. Surprisingly, Marmol was awarded a contract extension.

Molina is somebody that could replace him if the Cardinals decide to go a different direction. Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker is also an option, as his contract expires at the end of this season.

We'll see what the Cardinals decide to do depending on how they finish the season.
