There was a flurry of moves across Major League Baseball on Sunday.

With September now here, Major League Baseball rosters have now expanded giving teams an opportunity to bring up more players from the minor leagues. Contenders will take advantage of this to add exciting, young talent to bolster depth. Non-contenders likely will use these extra roster spots to take a look at young players to see if they can contribute in 2025.

All in all, there were a handful of moves made. One player who ended up on the short end of a move is former Philadelphia Phillies infielder Jean Segura. He has been in the Baltimore Orioles farm system and was released on Sunday, according to MLB Trade Rumors' By Mark Polishuk.

"Amidst an already busy day of Orioles transactions, the O’s announced two more moves, as infielder Jean Segura has been released from his minor league contract and left-hander Nick Vespi was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk," Polishuk said. "Segura signed his minors deal in August and hit only .137/.250/.196 over 60 plate appearances in 14 games with Norfolk.

"This marked Segura’s first game action of any kind since his last game as a member of the Marlins on July 31, 2023.  The Marlins traded Segura to the Guardians the next day as part of the deadline deal that brought Josh Bell to the Miami, and since Segura was only included in the trade as salary offset, Cleveland immediately released the veteran infielder."

It wouldn't be too shocking to see Segura end up landing another opportunity in the near future. He was with the Phillies from 2019 through the 2022 campaign and slashed .281/.337/.418 with 43 home runs and 176 RBIs.
