Former Titans edge rusher signs on to division rival's practice squad

Just days after the Tennessee Titans cut him loose, outside linebacker Rashad Weaver has signed with a division rival's practice squad.

According to Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com , Weaver is joining the Houston Texans ' practice squad. It isn't clear if the Titans offered him a practice squad spot after cutting him recently.

Weaver was a fourth-round pick of the Titans in the 2021 NFL Draft. After missing almost all of his rookie campaign due to injury, Weaver looked like he might turn into something when he tallied 5.5 sacks over the first half of the 2022 campaign.

However, he failed to register a single sack from that point through the 2023 season. After a lackluster showing during the 2024 preseason, Weaver still managed to make the initial 53-man roster before getting cut.

Weaver is just the latest former Titans player to sign with the Texans, as both edge rusher Denico Autry and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair inked contracts with Houston during free agency earlier this offseason.

The Texans won't have Autry for the first six games of the 2024 campaign, though, as he was suspended for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

The Titans and Texans will have their first of two meetings this season in Week 12 in Houston. They will play for a second time in Week 18 in Nashville.
