Miami takes the chomp out of Florida at the swamp

After the 24-point loss to the ‘Canes on Saturday, Billy Napier tried to make sense of his team’s poor showing. “We struggled to produce any running game outside of one explosive” Napier said.

Napier said “Miami outplayed us, out-coached us, and give them credit. I do think there are things we can do better. There’s no question there were mistakes made.”

If not for a conference rule regarding media availability, Napier would have taken the first airboat out of the swamp back to the safety and security of his home. However, for the media in attendance, Napier continued.

Miami planted storm flags at midfield

“It’s embarrassing, to be honest with you. That’s how I feel. That’s how our kids feel, “Napier said. “There’s no excuses. Keep our mouths shut, show up and work. We have to do better.”

Napier’s coaching seat is a raging inferno and bets are being placed that he is driving a moving truck out of town before December.

Napier said, “I’ll have more answers for you on Monday, but sitting here right now, I have no excuses for you.”

Then, Napier paid homage to the Hurricanes for the beat down his Gators just suffered.

“You’ve got to give Miami some credit,” Napier said, “They’ve got a good football team.”

“I think ultimately we’ve got to take a good look in the mirror, I think as coaches and players,” Napier said. “What can we do to get a better outcome.”

Napier is on borrowed time as he tries to fix the problems that are draining the swamp of faith and confidence in his ability to coach winning football.

There was a funeral procession leaving the swamp

It sounded more like a eulogy than a press conference.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward , when asked about making a statement in the game, said, “I think we made more of a statement on physicality not just on ourselves.”

“I think the best thing we did in this game was be very physical in the trenches,” Ward said.
