The Red Sox starting rotation has been on fire for the past seven games

The Boston Red Sox starting rotation has been cooking recently, but the bullpen and the offense have not been following suit.

In the last 23 games, the starters have pitched 113 innings and gave up 42 earned runs, posting a 3.33 ERA. However, in the past seven games, the starters have pitched 37 innings and given up only five earned runs, posting a 1.22 ERA.

So how have the Red Sox only won three of those seven? The offense. It has been very cold recently, and rarely heats up. Especially when the opposing team pitches a lefty, and the Sox’s lineup being made up of almost all lefties, suffers.

The offense needs to learn how to swing for contact, instead of just trying to slam the ball for extra bases. They also need to differentiate a clear ball from a clear strike, which some Sox players have real trouble doing.

The bullpen is also a problem. The starters will put in six great innings, all for one reliever to come out, walk a guy, hit another, then give a guy a pitch down the middle for a homer.

The one good thing to come from this is the Sox have shown they can be elite in offense, starting pitching, and relief pitching. Once they figure out how to put it all together again, they’ll be back like they were in the glory days.
