Pete Carroll talks to Marshawn Lynch about that one infamous Super Bowl play-call

There may never again be a single play where so much is won or lost. The Falcons' Super Bowl collapse against Tom Brady and the Patriots two years later took some of the heat off, but that implosion took an entire fourth quarter and overtime to complete. The Seahawks' sudden collapse at the goal line came in just a split second when Malcolm Butler jumped the route on Russell Wilson's pass to Ricardo Lockette. In the blink of an eye the Seahawks went from winning the Super Bowl to losing it.

According to most NFL fans, the play should never have happened, as the ball should have gone to star running back Marshawn Lynch with the title on the line. Many Seahawks fans have never gotten over it, despite having won the Super Bowl in dominant fashion the year before. As Lynch says, it's left a stain that will be impossible to wash out.

Lynch is now podcasting with California governor Gavin Newsom , and Pete Carroll joined him on their most-recent episode to talk about the Super Bowl win that never was and how it affected everybody involved. Here's a preview from Adam Schefter at ESPN.

Carroll seems to think a three-peat was possible if that play had gone differently, which we've always suspected. In any case, it's all over now - Seattle has a new head coach and Carroll will be teaching classes at USC this fall.
