Los Angeles Chargers grab a player that will be heavily connected to them in latest mock draft

Though there is an entire season to get through before the 2025 NFL Draft takes place, talking about and familiarizing ourselves with prospects for the coming year will never be a bad thing.

Michigan Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland is one of those players and between now and next April, he's a player you will likely read about in connection to the Los Angeles Chargers many times, for obvious reasons.

The Chargers need a game-breaking tight end, one with the ability to stretch the field and make the defense think about another major weapon. Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst are solid veterans, but they aren't going to do that. Loveland has that ability.

Then there is the connection between Harbaugh and Loveland which dates back to their time together at Michigan where they won a national championship. For these reasons, Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News has the Chargers taking him with the No. 18 overall pick in the next draft.

Colston Loveland should be the first tight end off the board

The first tight end off the board this past spring was Brock Bowers, another player who many thought the Chargers would take but he ended up with the Las Vegas Raiders after they instead drafted Joe Alt.

While Loveland won't have the kind of notoriety coming into the NFL that Bowers did, he is easily the top tight end prospect in the upcoming draft class and could become a star in the league. He is coming off a terrific start to the season where he caught eight passes for 87 yards and a touchdown last Saturday against Fresno State.

As stated, there is still an entire season to get through and many things can and likely will change between now and next April's draft. But just about any Chargers fans who are also familiar with the game of Loveland would likely call this a home-run pick if it were to come to fruition.
