The Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping tight end Pat Freiermuth for the long haul, as the team has signed the former second-round pick to a four-year contract extension.

According to his agents , it's a four-year deal worth $48.4 million. Per Over the Cap , the total value ranks seventh among tight ends, while the annual average ($12.1 million) ranks ninth.

Shortly after news of the extension broke, Freiermuth took to social media to share his reaction to it.

"Blessed and honored to be apart of this organization for years to come," Freiermuth wrote. "See Yinz on Sunday in ATL."

Freiermuth enjoyed a career-best campaign in 2023 when he tallied 63 receptions for 732 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The receptions and receiving yards were career-bests for him.

But the veteran wasn't able to replicate that success in 2023, finishing with 32 catches for 308 yards and two touchdowns. However, he also missed five games and the quarterback play and play-calling were not good.

Looking ahead to 2024, Freiermuth stands to have a huge role in the offense thanks to the Steelers' shaky options at the wide receiver position behind George Pickens, and the quarterback play will hopefully be better after the team signed Russell Wilson and traded for Justin Fields.

Freiermuth and the Steelers will begin their 2024 campaign on Sunday afternoon with a matchup against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
