How DK Metcalf has grown going into 2024, according to Seahawks QB Geno Smith

The NFL doesn't have any clue what's about to happen to them at the hands of the fighting 2024 Seattle Seahawks . Under the guidance of big-brained rookie head coach Mike Macdonald and rock-star offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, we're expecting bigger things from this team than we have since the end of the peak Legion of Boom era in 2016.

The main reason for the boost in expectations is Seattle's sleek and tricky defensive scheme that's sure to trip up a lot of quarterbacks the same way it did for the Baltimore Ravens last year - especially Brock Purdy of the division rival San Francisco 49ers. However, there's also good reason to be bullish about the Seahawks offense, especially star wide receiver DK Metcalf.

According to all accounts, both Metcalf's game and his maturity have grown by leaps and bounds this offseason. Here's what starting quarterback Geno Smith had to say about Metcalf's growh on Thursday.

Geno Smith on how DK Metcalf has grown

"The guy was already good, right? And then he came back this offseason and was that much better. Looks like he's running faster. Looks like he got stronger, you know. Every pass you throw to him he's catching it. Just his leadership has grown. The way that he approaches the game. The way that he prepares. Just every part of him is growing and right now he looks like the best receiver in football."

Only time will tell whether this is just nice words from one teammate to another or if Metcalf has really taken a significant step forward . For what it's worth, we've always felt that Metcalf was leaving yards and points on the field, even as good as he's been so far in his NFL career. DK certainly has all the physical tools he needs to be the best receiver in football, rather than just looking like it.

If it's true that Metcalf has embraced some real discipline there's no reason why he can't challenge the elite wideouts around the league for posting the most receiving yards in the NFL this coming season.
