Las Vegas Raiders named potential landing spot for big-name QB in 2025 free agency

The Las Vegas Raiders have a major question mark at the quarterback position in 2024 after the team didn't make a significant move at the position this offseason.

The Raiders signed Gardner Minshew to a two-year deal, but he's anything but a lock to be a long-term solution under center. Backing him up is Aidan O'Connell, who the jury is still very much out on ahead of his second season. The fact that he wasn't able to beat out Minshew isn't a great sign for him, though.

If neither quarterback pans out, the Raiders will be in the market for a new one next offseason, and one NFL analyst, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox , believes that could be Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott.

The Las Vegas Raiders would be obvious suitors for Prescott if he becomes available in 2025. Las Vegas tried to make things work with journeyman quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in 2022 and it's going to give it a go with Gardner Minshew this season.

Minshew beat out 223 fourth-round pick Aidan O'Connell for the starting give, even though O'Connell seemed to be the more efficient quarterback during preseason play.

If Minshew doesn't provide a clear quarterback upgrade, new head coach Antonio Pierce probably won't hesitate to go back to O'Connell. Even if he does, he's not likely to stop Las Vegas from pursuing Prescott.

Of course, Prescott would first have to hit free agency, which isn't a guarantee, as he and the Cowboys are discussing an extension and "progress has been made" between the two sides, according to Clarence Hill .

But let's assume for a second that Prescott is available on the open market. Signing him would immediately provide an upgrade for the Raiders over who they have now, but their desire to bring him in will likely depend on how things go in 2024.

If the Raiders have the kind of season that puts them out of the range of one of the top quarterbacks in next year's draft, Prescott will be a realistic option for general manager Tom Telesco, who simply cannot wait another year to beef up the quarterback position.

But if Las Vegas finds itself near the top of the draft, Telesco will almost certainly want to grab a franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, which would save the team a ton of money the Raiders can use to rebuild the roster elsewhere.
