Jahmyr Gibbs stats Week 1: Detroit Lions RB scores touchdown in 2024 debut

Fresh off an amazing rookie season, Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs is looking to build upon what he did in 2023 and take that next step in his career.

Gibbs was sensational in his first year, with the Alabama product tallying 1,261 yards from scrimmage, including 945 on the ground and 316 through the air, and he tallied 11 total touchdowns, with 10 of them coming on carries. That showing was good enough to earn him a Pro Bowl nod.

Entering the 2024 campaign, Gibbs was expected to see his role expanded after comments made by general manager Brad Holmes. However, Gibbs didn't see an uptick in usage in the Week 1 win over the Los Angeles Rams and continued to split work almost evenly with fellow running back David Montgomery.

He did find pay dirt in his 2024 debut, though. Let's take a look at his Week 1 totals.

    Jahmyr Gibbs Stats Week 1

Gibbs saw six less carries than Montgomery in the season-opener but had three more receptions. In all, Gibbs had 15 touches to Montgomery's 18.

    Stat Total
    Carries 11
    Rushing Yards 40
    Rushing TDs 1
    Receptions 4
    Yards Per Carry 3.6
    Receiving Yards 34
    Receiving TDs 0
    Yards Per Reception 8.5

Gibbs was outgained on the ground by Montgomery, 91-40, and had six less carries. But he did have three more receptions and 32 more receiving yards than his backfield mate. For now, it looks like the touch distribution is status quo.

    Jahmyr Gibbs Highlights

Gibbs showed plenty of toughness on his touchdown run that saw him fight for the extra yard to cross the goal line. The fact that he got the carry from the one-yard line is a great sign for fantasy managers.

Gibbs didn't have quite the game fantasy managers were expecting, but he still managed to turn in a solid fantasy performance in Week 1. There will be better weeks ahead for the young running back.
