Chase Young needed one game to have a breakout showing for New Orleans Saints

Some might have wondered whether the Chase Young experiment would work out for the New Orleans Saints .

Let’s just say it’s trending in the right direction.

Young made his debut with the Saints during that season-opening beatdown of the Carolina Panthers. Over the course of that 47-10 thumping, he doubled up on pressures compared to his teammates.

NFL.com ’s Bobby Kownack explained:  “Chase Young generated a team-high six pressures -- twice as many as the next closest Saints pass rusher -- in his New Orleans debut.”

Here’s a fun one—over at Pro Football Reference , Young has never been cited for more than 25 pressures total in a season.

By NFL Next Gen’s count, he’s got six already and at least 16 games to blow past his previous career high.

Either way, the second-overall pick from the 2020 draft was a gamble for the Saints after he split time between two teams last year and didn’t blow anyone away, earning a one-year deal on the market and starting on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list in July.

While it merely came against the lowly Panthers, the Saints have to hope this is a sign of things to come, as Cam Jordan and others could certainly use the help getting after opposing passers over the course of a 17-game season.
