Mariners projected to land Rays star in trade this offseason

The Seattle Mariners have struggled in the second half of the 2024 season and now appear to be longshots to reach the postseason. However, they could easily bounce back into contention in 2025.

Their offense has been the main culprit of their struggles, as it has been unable to back up one of the top pitching staffs in Major League Baseball.

However, they could look to the Tampa Bay Rays for some help this winter. When projecting their Opening Day lineup for 2025, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report included second baseman Brandon Lowe.

"The Mariners and Rays have lined up as trade partners frequently in the last few years, and Seattle makes a ton of sense as a landing spot for Brandon Lowe," Reuter wrote. "The 30-year-old has a $10.5 million club option Tampa Bay will likely exercise while looking for a trade partner, and the Mariners could slot him in at second base after declining their own club option on Jorge Polanco."

Obviously, a lot would need to fall into place for a trade such as this to happen, though it's not out of the realm of possibility that Seattle will decline Polanco's option.

The 31-year-old is hitting just .204 this season with 14 home runs, 39 RBI< and a poor .643 OPS.

Lowe is having a far better season than Polanco. He's hitting .242 with 16 homers, 49 RBI, and a .785 OPS. He brings power from the left side and is a proven bat that would give the Mariners an offensive boost.

It will be interesting to see if this scenario materializes this coming offseason.
