Cameron Johnston injury update: Steelers punter has season-ending injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their starting punter, Cameron Johnston, suffer a season-ending injury during the Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, per reports.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , Johnston suffered a season-ending knee injury when he was run into by a Falcons defender in the fourth quarter. Rapoport did not immediately reveal the exact injury.

This is absolutely devastating news for the Steelers and Johnston, who signed a three-year, $9 million deal earlier this offseason.

Johnston had an excellent offseason before making his Steelers debut on Sunday, and he was equally impressive in Week 1 after averaging north of 50 yards per punt on two attempts.

The Steelers will now have to go back to the drawing board at punter after bringing in Johnston to hold down the starting job. One player the Steelers could take a look at is their former seventh-round pick, Pressley Harvin III, who was the team's punter for the last three years before Pittsburgh pulled the plug in 2024.

Over his three seasons with the Steelers, Harvin averaged 43.7 yards per punt and dropped 75 of his 217 attempts inside the 20. However, the Georgia Tech product struggled with consistency, which led to the Steelers cutting him earlier this offseason.

Since then, Harvin had a cup of coffee with the San Francisco 49ers but wasn't able to stick past 53-man roster cuts.

Teams will typically go with someone they know in a situation like this, so it wouldn't be at all surprising to see Harvin get the first crack at Pittsburgh's job.
