Bo Nix has anemic number attached to his stat line after first career start

    By Travis Wakeman,

Bo Nix fell short of victory in his first career start for the Denver Broncos . Despite a strong start , the team lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 26-20, on Sunday.

Nix did what he could to keep the team afloat, but the lack of a serious offensive weapon and a poor rushing attack spelled defeat. Though Nix completed 26 passes in the game, he threw for only 138 yards on the day. In addition, he averaged just 3.3 yards per passing attempt.

That is about as low as you will ever see in the NFL. In fact, that can be proven.

This should put several things under the microscope for the Broncos. Was the offensive gameplan set up for him to succeed? Should the team consider mixing things up at the wide receiver position? Was it just a case of first-game jitters?

Broncos need to open things up on offense

For the Broncos, having Nix throw these short passes to slow (no matter how big they are) wide receivers is not a recipe for success. Nix's game in college was to operate with a short-passing attack but eventually, that has to open things up down the field.

If you can't get the ball down the field, you aren't going to score any points. As a result, this was an incredibly easy offense for Seattle to defend. At one point, they seemed to be begging Nix to try and take a shot down the field. When he did, this happened.

Hearing the announcer say "Oh no" as soon as he releases the ball says all that you need to know. The Seahawks weren't remotely threatened by this Broncos offense, especially in the second half, and the team is going to have to look for ways to open things up going forward.

Nix did not play horribly, but this statistic of 3.3 yards per passing attempt is one you might not ever see again in today's NFL.
