With the Pittsburgh Steelers ' Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons in the books, all eyes are once again on Russell Wilson, who may or may not make his  2024 debut in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos .

Of course, Wilson sat out Week 1 after experiencing calf tightness in practice over the week, but reports suggested that he told the Steelers he could play before he was ultimately ruled out, paving the way for Justin Fields to get the start.

One would assume that Wilson will be ready by this Sunday after he was seemingly close last week, but one insider believes he may not be.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport thinks Wilson will "probably" be out another week because Rapoport believes the veteran signal-caller wasn't "particularly close to playing" in Week 1.

"I didn't think he was particularly close to playing this week," he told KOA Sports . "I know they kind of did the drawn out like workout or whatever. I did not think he was particularly close to playing. That makes me think it's probably going to be another week."

That sounds more like an opinion coming from Rapoport rather than a report, but it's an interesting nugget nonetheless.

Fields completed 17-of-23 passes for 156 yards while adding 14 carries for 57 yards in the 18-10 win over Atlanta. His performance wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't enough to supplant Wilson as the team's starter.

As a result, we fully expect Wilson to take the reins once he's healthy enough to play, although it remains to be seen exactly when that will be.
