The NBL's pre-season is well underway, but that hasn't stopped the major signings, with the Adelaide 36ers securing the signature of NBA veteran Montrezl Harrell.

Harrell, 30, last played for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2022-23 season, but was waived after suffering an ACL injury.

Signed as an injury replacement for the currently sidelined Jarrell Martin, Harrell will join a promising Adelaide squad under newly minted head coach Mike Wells, as they look to stabilise following a rocky few years in the City of Churches.

After losing star import Martin due to injury for at least the first chunk of the season, the 36ers responded in a massive way, bringing in 2020 NBA Sixth-Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell, according to ESPN .

While reportedly a short-term deal, Harrell will have an immediate impact on the 36ers, who endured a drama-riddled off-season.

He joins star import guard Kendric Davis, as well as an impressive collection of local talent including DJ Vasiljevic, Isaac Humphries, and Jason Cadee, under the coaching of freshly appointed coach Mike Wells.

Harrell would have the possibility to remain in Adelaide longer, but that would require the team to cut a local player to accommodate this, something which could pay dividends if Harrell is able to produce at the level of previous years in the NBA.

He most recently suited up for Philadelphia in the NBA, playing 57 games for the team before suffering an ACL injury in the lead up to training camp in August 2023, leading the team to waive his contract.

This will be Harrell's return to professional basketball, with the veteran undoubtedly seeking a return to the NBA at still just 30 years of age.
