The Boston Red Sox have had some brutal injury luck throughout this season, starting with Lucas Giolito injuring his elbow back in Spring Training, and it hasn't stopped since then.

On Tuesday, Worcester Red Sox manager Chad Tracy announced that infielder Mickey Gasper, who Boston optioned back to Triple-A last week, suffered a back injury while packing up his things to go from Boston to Worcester.

Gasper didn't play in either game of Worcester's doubleheader on Tuesday and is considered day-to-day with the injury.

The 28-year-old tore up Triple-A this year, hitting .396 with a 1.163 OPS, eight home runs, 32 RBIs and a stolen base in 41 games. However, when he was promoted to the MLB, he didn't see much success, going 0-for-12 with four walks.

Boston could've used him stepping up and doing anything during his time with the big league club, as they had a significant dropoff during his time with the club.

Once he's healthy back in Worcester, Gasper could slide in back at first base where he'll split time with Jamie Westbrook, who also had a tough stint in the MLB this season. He could also be used to spell top prospect Kyle Teel behind the plate when needed.
