Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes still catches NFL players by surprise with his speed.

Mahomes had a relatively quiet game (by his standards) in the Chiefs 27-20 Week 1 over the Baltimore Ravens , throwing for 291 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception on 20-of-28 passing.

On his "Punch Line" podcast , Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey praised Mahomes, calling him "hard" to beat while giving a back-handed compliment to Mahomes' speed.

"It's hard to beat Mahomes," Humphrey said. "What makes him very good is just, he does— he really does some pretty wild stuff that sometimes catches him, but a lot of times doesn't ... He's, like, a chubby fast dude. I'm always amazed when he's just out-running people or just juking people in the back-field, getting out of a sack and just launching the ball."

Though Mahomes only ran for three yards in Week 1, he still made some impressive plays with his legs. His most pivotal play might have come on his last throw. On 3rd-and-10 with 2:36 remaining in the game, Mahomes attempted a pass, only for Ravens linebacker Trenton Simpson to tip the ball up in the air. Mahomes then raced forward and beat the Ravens to the ball, essentially completing a two-yard pass to himself.

By getting the ball himself, he might have saved a game-tying pick-six, as the Ravens had an empty field ahead of them if they had secured the interception.

Humphrey said that Kansas City is one of the few cities where he has not won a game during his career.

"It's hard to beat the Chiefs."
