Two Jets' starting cornerbacks limited due to injury during short week

The New York Jets are facing the challenge of a short week, and it could wind up costing at least one starting cornerback his availability for the Week 2 road game against the Tennessee Titans .

Boundary cornerback DJ Reed and slot cornerback Michael Carter are both nursing injuries that limited them in practice on Wednesday in Florham Park. Since the Jets held only a walk-through session, the players' official participation status is just an estimation.

"Injury wise, two guys would've been limited today. It's Michael Carter and DJ Reed. DJ's just dealing with some knee soreness. They're both gonna be fine for the game," said Saleh.

While Reed's soreness appears to have emerged in the time since the Monday Night Football opener, Carter suffered his ankle injury on the field against the San Francisco 49ers . He was ruled questionable to return, but never re-entered the eventual 32-19 loss.

"Just Michael, but like I said, he could've finished the game yesterday. We just opted to keep him out," said Saleh while addressing reporters virtually on Tuesday.

Both Reed and Carter are Top 15 players at their position according to Pro Football Focus . The former accounted for nine tackles and one pass break-up against the 49ers. Carter was credited with two solo stops.

Jets' defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw was absent from the team facility on Wednesday due to a family matter.

"You guys won't see Javon Kinlaw out there. He's having a baby today. Hope everything goes well for him," said Saleh.

The Jets visit the Titans for a September 15 AFC matchup set to kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
