Steelers may get a glimpse of the future at both tackle spots in Week 2

When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted offensive tackle Troy Fautanu in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the ultimate goal was for him to start at one of the tackle spots and for last year's first-round pick, Broderick Jones, to man the other.

But in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons , Fautanu did not get the start and instead the Steelers went with their 2023 pairing in Jones at right tackle and veteran Dan Moore at left tackle.

There was some buzz that the Steelers' original plan was to start Fautanu in Week 1, but that was likely dashed the moment the Oregon product suffered an injury in preseason Week 1 that kept him out the rest of the offseason.

Ahead of their Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos , the Steelers may get a glimpse of their young tackle pairing, as Moore is dealing with an ankle injury , leaving his status for Sunday up in the air.

At practice on Wednesday, Fautanu was working with the first-team offense at right tackle while Jones was playing at left tackle.

If Fautanu does get the nod on Sunday, the Steelers will be rolling out a promising but very young offensive line. Fautanu and center Zach Frazier are both rookies, while Jones and left guard Spencer Anderson are both sophomores.

The elder statesman of the group, right guard James Daniels, has more NFL experience than the other four combined.

While the lack of experience is obviously concerning in the short term, it's also exciting to know that the Steelers are on the cusp of transitioning to a new era upfront that is filled with promise.
