Bears receivers sit out Wednesday practice following Week 1 injuries

The Chicago Bears battled back from a 17-3 deficit against the Tennessee Titans to win, 24-17, in Week 1.

Pulling off a comeback like that might not be as easy in Week 2 against Houston.

Chicago wide receivers Keenan Allen (heel), and Rome Odunze (knee) both spent time in the injury tent on Sunday, and neither practiced Wednesday per a report from ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter.

But don’t sound the alarm bells just yet.

Allen’s absence is being classified as a ‘rest day’ by Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, and Odunze is simply considered day-to-day, according to ESPN reporter Courtney Cronin .

There’s a chance that both of these players suit up on Sunday, but even if they do, it’s unlikely they’ll be playing at 100% health.

    Keenan Allen’s Injury Outlook

Allen is unlikely to miss Sunday’s game at this point.

After picking up this injury nearly a month ago in mid-August, Allen has clearly been hampered (he was limping on Sunday) but has been able to play nonetheless.

It’s concerning that this injury is lingering this long, but rest days like Wednesday are the only way he can have a realistic chance of getting healthy while still playing.

Still, it’s worth monitoring Thursday’s practice report to see if this injury is severe enough to keep Allen out again.

    Rome Odunze’s Injury Outlook

According to Chicago Sun-Times reporter Jason Lieser , Odunze “said he felt a pop in his knee and was relieved it turned out to be minor (Grade 1 sprain).”

Lieser added that despite not practicing, Odunze dressed for practice and planned to do conditioning on his own.

That’s about as encouraging as the updates can be at this point.

ESPN reported that Odunze was considered week-to-week on Monday, and Eberflus was unsure of his availability.
