Braves could sign projected $200 million star in blockbuster move

The Atlanta Braves certainly had some high expectations heading into the 2024 Major League Baseball regular season.

Atlanta was the best team in the National League last season in the regular season but was upset in the playoffs. The Braves hoped to bounce back this year but injuries have completely derailed their season. The Braves hung in there for a while, but now they are in danger of losing their playoff spot.

No matter what happens down the stretch, the Braves will be significantly better in 2025 just based on players getting healthy again. If Atlanta could add a little in free agency, that also could help.

The Braves could use a boost at shortstop and FanSided's Robert Murray mentioned Atlanta as a possible fit for Milwaukee Brewers star Willy Adames.

"The Atlanta Braves are a team that could be a strong fit for Adames, especially with long-term questions at shortstop," Murray said. "Braves executive Alex Anthopoulos is as aggressive as any general manager in baseball when it comes to players he 1) loves and 2) would fill a need. Adames is an emerging star player who has drawn rave reviews for his impact on the Brewers’ clubhouse - and that’s something that Anthopoulos is on the record in saying that he values.

"It’s unclear if Anthopoulos would pony up the $150-200 million it would take to sign Adames. But it’s easy to see Adames seamlessly fitting into the Braves’ locker room and becoming one of the teams’ most important players – and it’s surely something that the front office should, and will consider, ahead of free agency."

Adames has shined for the Brewers this season and he may be the best offensive shortstop in baseball right now. He certainly could help the Braves, although he will get paid very well this winter.
