Braves All-Star pitcher predicted to leave Atlanta in free agency

The Atlanta Braves will have a few important free agents to monitor this winter.

Atlanta is expected to turn things around in 2025. The Braves aren't among the top contenders in the National League right now only due to injuries but they likely will be right back up there in 2025 with good health.

The Braves have a chance of missing the postseason over the next few weeks. Atlanta is competing with the red-hot New York Mets for a National League Wild Card spot and right now it's unclear who will land the spot.

It's going to be an exciting few weeks but then the club will have to make some tough decisions once free agency kicks off. The Braves could lose some players and FanSided's Zach Pressnell suggested veteran pitcher Charlie Morton could be a player that goes in a different direction .

"The Atlanta Braves pitching staff is somehow loaded with talent but also extremely shallow at the same time," Pressnell said. They have about a dozen guys that will be fighting for the five spots in the starting rotation once Spencer Strider returns. The scary part about this is that about eight of these guys are completely unproven prospects.

"Spencer Schwellenbach, Hurston Waldrep, and AJ Smith-Shawver headline these top prospects. Former All-Star Bryce Edler is still very talented but has fallen off horribly this year. Max Fried will be the team's biggest priority once the season ends. Then there are returners like Reynaldo Lopez and Chris Sale who are penciled in as the one and two in the rotation next season...All of this is saying that the 40-year-old, Charlie Morton, likely won't receive another contract from Atlanta after his expires at the end of this season."

Morton has spent the last four seasons with the Braves and has been an important piece of the rotation but his days with the team could be numbered.
